Alexey Chub — Russian as the second language/English as the second language teacher
My teaching motto is: ‘Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.’ This saying by John Dewey has been inspiring me throughout my whole teaching career and is one of the guiding principles I always stick to. Although learning begins in the classroom, it doesn’t end there and my task as a teacher is to set up the signs for the road ahead of the students so that they can continue learning new things whichever route they take.
I started teaching English and German in 2018 and immediately understood that teaching was the area that interested and inspired me and it soon became my passion. Working with students of different ages was challenging and required the development of crucial professional and personal skills which I improved through constant learning myself. Being honest, diligent, organised and hard-working, I’ve always tried to help my students achieve better results in any field they were interested in – from language learning to scientific work.
I believe that learning is a life-long process and both a teacher and a student must look for the opportunities for it in their everyday life – by means of communication with people of various cultural backgrounds, reading, interacting with the environment and discovering new things. As an avid reader and a language learner, carrying out academic research in the field of linguistics and teaching methodology that is what I have been doing myself all my life being.
I am ecstatic to be working at the International School of St. Petersburg and am always looking for new opportunities to contribute and make a difference as a member of the staff.
